The carriages that can be found at the Mews were built at a time when English coach-building was the envy of the world. This means that Martin and his team of carriage restorers need a wide variety - and high level - of traditional coach-making skills and craftsmanship. They need to know how to treat many different types of materials including metals, textiles, varied types of woods and paints.
The work the restorers do has to be of the very highest quality as the next person to use the carriages they are renovating could be Her Majesty The Queen, on an important state occasion.
