In addition to the carriages at the Royal Mews, a number of cars are garaged there to transport Her Majesty The Queen and other members of the Royal Family to and from engagements.

The first ever royal motor car was purchased by King Edward VII in 1901 (Queen Victoria did not like motor cars!) and he set up the first garage at the Royal Mews. By 1920 King George V had converted two coach houses to accommodate the royal Daimlers.

The Royal Mews currently looks after The Queen's State Limousines, which include 3 Rolls-Royce, 3 Daimlers and 2 Bentleys, all painted in the Royal Claret livery, and her private cars as well.
